Electronic cigarettes triple the risk of dangerous diseases
Nicotine, contained in electronic cigarettes, damages arteries and can triple the risk of heart disease. This conclusion was reached by experts from the Karolinska Institute (Sweden).
According to scientists, electronic cigarettes increase blood pressure and heart rate. The study they conducted showed that a disorder called arterial stiffness is three times more common among users of electronic cigarettes containing nicotine than among those who use these nicotine-free gadgets.
Rigidity of the arteries means that it becomes more difficult for the heart to pump blood through the body, which increases the load on this organ and increases the risk of its damage. This disorder is associated with high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, stroke, heart failure and arrhythmia.

Scientists warn that regular use of electronic cigarettes with liquid nicotine or exposure to other people by the steam from these cigarettes can cause a prolonged violation of blood circulation.
The scientists made their conclusions on the basis of observations of 15 young, healthy volunteers with an average age of 26 years. They were all so-called “social” smokers who consumed no more than 10 cigarettes a month who had not previously used electronic cigarettes. They were offered electronic cigarettes with nicotine for 30 minutes a day, as well as the same cigarettes without nicotine the next day. Researchers measured blood pressure, heart rate and arterial rigidity immediately after using electronic cigarettes, and also 2 and 4 hours later. Stiffness of the arteries of consumers of electronic cigarettes with nicotine increased significantly.
